Our mission is "to engage, educate, and enrich the communities of  the Yampa Valley through dance and movement."

A vibrant culture of dance in the Yampa Valley, where anyone who wants to dance is able to.

The Annual Community Dance Concert invites community members to produce, choreograph, and perform in a dance concert. The concert features dancers of all skill sets and a wide variety of dance styles. The Concert is a well-attended community event.

The Scholarship Program is designed to support the needs of dance students that demonstrate financial need, to allow them to take dance classes. This program offers three different types of scholarships: 1st Position Scholarships (individuals needing support for regular weekly classes), 5th Position Scholarships (individuals needing support for tuition or registration fees for reginal competitions, conventions, workshops, etc.) and Sponsor-A-Dancer (individual students nominated by their studio based on leadership, commitment, and financial need).

The Community Enrichment Program encompasses everything from master dance classes to community dance classes to bringing dance programming into local non-profits that provide services to youth, the elderly and special needs groups to School Outreach (bringing dance instruction into the local schools) to Dance on Film (free dance documentary showings). These programs are designed to increase an appreciation of dance for dancers and dance enthusiast (non-dancers) alike.

Steamboat Dance Theatre (SDT) was formed in 1972 in order to offer Steamboat's local dancers the opportunity to perform, share a common bond, and to enrich our community with performance art.

SDT has given our locals the opportunity for dance education and advancement in the areas of choreography, performance, production, and master dance classes.

Our mission is three-tiered:  Community Enrichment, School Outreach and Dance Scholarship.

Through our Community Enrichment mission, it is SDT's goal to bring a professional, nationally recognized dance company to perform and offer master classes in Steamboat every other year.  We are proud to have hosted Hubbard Street 2 and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, and we look forward to bringing this level of dance to Steamboat again in the near future.  SDT also offers master classes taught by local and regional instructors in varying genres of dance throughout the year.

In our School Outreach Program, it is our goal to bring the Arts through Dance into our local schools so that we may introduce the wonderful world of dance to the next generation.  If you are interested in becoming involved with the School Outreach Program, please give us a call or send us an email today!

The Steamboat Dance Theatre Scholarship Program is an extremely valuable resource within our community.  Through the Program, SDT funds dance scholarships for Routt County residents.  Anyone with financial need is welcome to apply for tuition assistant to study dance, regardless of age or ability level.  Last year SDT proudly gave over $20,000 in scholarship funds to 185 students, all of whom would not have been able to participate in dance without this support.  To apply for a scholarship, click on the "Dance Scholarship Application" tab on the left side of the Home page.

Of course, all of this would not be possible if not for the generous support of our sponsors and the local community.  We would also like to thank the City of Steamboat Springs for their continued support of Steamboat Dance Theatre and of the Arts in Steamboat.  For information about Giving & Sponsorship please contact us today!
